Journey of Spacehouse Himalayas

Priti’s journey to Spacehouse Himalayas

Priti Rao, founder of Spacehouse, came to the Himalayas expecting to stay for seven days. The mountains had other plans. What began as a short visit stretched into seven years. Even after time spent living in Europe and California, the memory of the mountains stayed with her. She returned, and with the support of family and friends, purchased a small hillside farm.

What started as an empty acre and a feeling has slowly become Spacehouse. A place for artists, thinkers and seekers to pause, create and reconnect.

“The only thought at the time was - I don’t know where I want to live, but I know where I want to die - and that’s in the lap of the Himalayas with possibly the best view for many lifetimes ahead.”

The creation of Spacehouse has been a fifteen-year journey, shaped by the hands and hearts of many; artists, writers, designers and friends from across the world. As a creative herself, Priti hopes this place will nourish the next generation of travelers, makers and leaders, offering the same light, nature and stillness that have always nourished her.

Your journey to Spacehouse Himalayas

Reaching Spacehouse is part of the experience. It is not a trip to be rushed. Like any true journey, it begins with intention.

Your travel begins at Delhi or Pantnagar Airport, where a trusted driver will meet you. We suggest planning your arrival so that you reach Spacehouse in time for your first Himalayan sunset.

From Pantnagar, the drive winds through forests of teak, oak and pine. As the road climbs, terraced fields and quiet mountain villages come into view. Apple and peach orchards line the hills. After three hours, you arrive in Satoli, a peaceful hilltop village 1,850 meters above sea level.

You step out of the car and take in your first deep breath of the mountain air. The final part of the journey is a walk. A quiet, twenty-minute path through the forest, past old oak trees and blooming rhododendrons. There is no rush. You are now on Spacehouse time. Our team will carry your luggage so that you can move at your own pace.

At the end of the path, a house of red cedar and golden stone appears through the trees. You step through hand-carved doors and into the stillness of Spacehouse. The scent of dinner drifts from the kitchen. Your bags are already waiting in one of the rooms. So is rest.

You walk out onto the terrace as the sun begins to set behind Trishul, Nanda Devi and Nandakot. You have arrived.
